California Fishing & Rates Fishing The Smith, Klamath, Eel
September 20 through March 31 and Mattole Rivers
The Smith River After 25 years of fishing trips on the Smith River, the river is just as special today as it was my first trip. The Smith River is the "Crowned Jewel" of all North Coast rivers. All day long you are drifting along side majastic old growth Redwood Tree's towering almost 300 ft tall. The scenery is spectacular and the fishing can be just as awesome. The river is known for it's world class Steelhead Fishing but also kicks out King Salmon to 50+ . The Steelhead fishing is awesome, we use light tackle and fish over 20 pounds are caught every year. My biggest is the second largest in California history, a 25 pound 12 ounce monster.
The Klamath River in Hornbrook, Ca The Klamath in Hornbrook can be as good or better then any fishing we have in Alaska. I am fishing the Klamath River Sep 25 through Oct 20 and in the month period we will have 7 to 30 thousand fish go by us headed to the Iron Gate Fish Hatchery. You can expect to catch 10 to 25 King Salmon a day in the 10 to 30 pound class. This is a great place to bring the wife and kids. There is a lot of action
The Eel and Mattole Rivers When things are slow on the Smith River or we are in drought conditions, the Eel and Mattole Rivers are a great option to fill your Steelhead fishing fix. Both of these rivers are "catch and release" rivers and support great runs of Steelhead.
